METAL BRACES:
Metal braces are the most common type. They are made with high grade stainless steel. Todays metal braces are smaller, more comfortable, and more attractive.
Most patients choose metal braces. You can have a lot of fun by choosing different band colors every month during your scheduled appointment. Pop the "Fun Stuff" balloon and select the Band Color Chooser to explore all the different fun color possibilities!
CERAMIC BRACES:
Ceramic braces are made of translucent material. They are most popular with adult patients, due to their cosmetic appeal. They are difficult to see on the teeth unless you are very close to the patient.
The draw backs to ceramic braces are that they are more fragile, the elastic ties around the brackets can discolor between orthodontic visits, and they are more expensive than traditional metal braces. Therefore it is recommended that patients with ceramic braces be seen every two weeks to replace the discolored elastic ties to ensure the esthetic aspect of the ceramic or translucent braces, and that more care is taken regarding eating, especially, hard foods due to the ceramic braces more fragile component when compared to metal braces. The additional cost of ceramic braces is usually paid when you receive your braces.
